Some say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I’d beg to differ, though. I think that concealer is truly a girl’s best friend. I can’t count how many times my concealer made my day by hiding an unsightly pimple or masking the morning dark circles under my eyes from a late night.
The difference that a great concealer can make is like night and day. One second, you look like you just got run over by a train; the next second, you’re ready to take on the day!

Non-Vegan Ingredients In Concealer
Before we jump into my list of the best cruelty-free concealer brands, I realize that many first-time vegans may have no idea about exactly what makes a concealer vegan or non-vegan.
The first thing that you’ll need to look out for when shopping for concealer is non-vegan ingredients. Additives such as animal fat, milk, beeswax, and even crushed bugs are often found in concealers and other powdery cosmetics.
To help you better understand your cosmetics, here’s a brief list of the most common non-vegan additives used in mainstream concealer brands:

| Guanine | Guanine may sound like an herb, but it’s actually derived from fish scales. That’s right, lots of makeup contains crushed-up, dried fish scales. Not exactly what most people envision smearing on their faces, right? Guanine is often added to cosmetics and concealers to provide added sheen, shine, and glitter. Since it’s an animal product, though, it’s far from vegan. |
| Casein | Casein is a special type of protein that’s found in milk. It’s used to create a soft, dry, powdery texture, and has historically been used in powder concealers. Unfortunately, casein is derived from dairy during the cheese-making process, which makes it a non-vegan animal product. |
| Collagen | Collagen is a special type of protein that’s found in a number of shampoos, supplements, lotions, and cosmetics. It’s the protein that helps keep our skin young, tight, and youthful. Unfortunately, the collagen used in cosmetics is all obtained directly from animal skins, ligaments, and hair. This means that collagen is never vegan. |
| Glycerin | Glycerin is a type of fatty oil that’s often used in soap, cosmetics, and sometimes liquid concealers. Although it can be extracted from plants, it’s often extracted from animal fats as well. Many non-vegan concealers use animal-derived glycerin, which is why I choose cruelty-free cosmetics brands. |
Plus, there’s also the fact that most non-vegan cosmetics are tested on animals. These captive animals are bred and raised to be subjected to cruel chemical product tests for the short duration of their lives. It’s painful, cruel, and would be considered a war crime if it was done to humans:

NYX is one of my favorite vegan makeup brands. Not only does the company make some seriously high-quality products but all of their products are 100% cruelty-free and vegan.
Their products are never tested on animals, so you never have to second-guess when you’re buying anything from NYX.
NYX Professional Bare With Me Concealer Serum is a liquid concealer that’s available in thirteen different shades, ranging from fair to deep chocolate. So, no matter what your skin tone is, NYX has something that’s bound to match perfectly.
Unlike some of the cheaper liquid concealers I’ve used, this one doesn’t clog my pores. I’ve never experienced any breakouts or rashes after using it. It’s very lightweight and smooth and is quickly absorbed by the skin, so I can blend it with other makeup shortly after application.
Last but not least, NYX Bare With Me is non-caking, so I don’t have to worry about it clumping on my face or creating an oily layer that causes the rest of my makeup to smear.
What I Like About It:

- Non-caking and won’t clump up on my face.
- Lightweight liquid application.

What’s Not-So-Great:
- The concealer is liquid, so it can be a bit sensitive to extreme temperatures.
2) COVERGIRL Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer (link)
Quality Rating: 8/10
Covergirl’s Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer is very similar to the NYX Bare With Me Concealer that I just mentioned. It’s a lightweight liquid concealer that’s reliable and affordably priced.
Covergirl also offers a foundation and a powder concealer that are designed to blend well with this particular liquid concealer. It’s available in fourteen different shades ranging from fair to darker skin tones, so you should be able to find something that blends well with your skin.
I really like how hydrating this particular concealer is. It contains added coconut milk and aloe vera gel, which really help out in the winter when the cold air and heaters constantly dry my skin out.
What I Like About It:
- It’s ultra-hydrating and contains coconut milk and aloe vera.
- It’s 100% vegan and cruelty-free concealer.
- It’s affordably priced.
- Available in fourteen shades.
What’s Not-So-Great:
- The container is rather small, so it’s easy to lose.
3) BaeBlu Organic Concealer, FULL-Coverage Cover Up (link)
Quality Rating: 10/10
If you’re looking for an all-natural, organic, vegan, and cruelty-free concealer, then BaeBlu Organic Full-Coverage Vegan Concealer is the one for you. While it is more expensive than the previous two liquid concealers that I mentioned, it’s a very high-quality product.
This pressed powder concealer has an ultra-fine texture that’s easy to evenly apply to your face and firmly binds to your face without the need to constantly reapply.
One of the things I really like about this vegan concealer is that it’s made with 100% hypoallergenic ingredients as well. So, if you have sensitive skin or acne-prone skin, then this may be your best bet.
As somebody with sensitive, fair skin, BaeBlu vegan concealer has never given me any acne or caused me topical irritation.
What I Like About It:
- It’s made from organic, all-natural ingredients.
- It’s vegan, plant-based, and cruelty-free.
- It’s made with hypoallergenic ingredients, making it great for sensitive skin.
What’s Not-So-Great:
- It’s pretty expensive for a concealer.
4) Pacifica Beauty Neutralizing Mattifier Cherry Powder Vegan Concealer (link)
Quality Rating: 8/10
Pacifica Beauty’s Neutralizing Mattifier Cherry Powder Concealer is another great vegan concealer that’s 100% cruelty-free. This vegan-friendly, matte powder concealer feels very similar to the BaeBlue powder concealer in the way that it feels and how long it lasts on your skin.
It’s not entirely plant-based and does contain some artificial/chemical ingredients. However, it’s also half the price of the BaeBlue vegan concealer.
The only downside that I’ve noticed about this concealer is that it’s only available in two different tones – beige and fair. So, if you have darker skin or a tan, then this probably isn’t the best brand for you. I have fair skin, however, so this blends in well with my natural tone.
What I Like About It:
- Vegan, cruelty-free concealer.
- Affordable.
- Contains real cherry and coconut powder.
- Helps control oil levels.
What’s Not-So-Great:
- Not available in darker tones.
What Is The Healthiest Concealer?
Out of all of these great vegan concealer brands, I’d say that the BaeBlue powder concealer is the “healthiest” concealer.
Although it is more expensive than any of the other vegan concealers I mentioned, it’s made with organic, all-natural ingredients. These are undoubtedly healthier for your skin in the long term.
The Verdict – What’s The Best Vegan Concealer?
Of all of these, I’d say that either the BaeBlue Powder Concealer or the NYX Professional Bare With Me Concealer are the best vegan concealer brands.
Both are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. They’re each made with high-quality ingredients as well, so you never have to question what you’re putting on your face.
