Is Billie Eilish Vegan? An Inspiring Pop Star (2024)

The youngest Grammy winner for album of the year known, apart from her incredible tracks, for her edgy style and unconventional green locks, Billie Eilish has taken over the music industry in no time.

But she is also known for things other than her music, big wins, and style.

The various sustainability initiatives she has taken over the years are among them, which makes many questions if she is a vegan.

So, is Billie Eilish vegan?

Billie Eilish is vegan. But she is not just another vegan. The 20-year-old award-winning American singer and songwriter is also a strong advocate of the plant-based lifestyle.

Eilish has also taken several measures to support and promote large-scale vegan initiatives. She was also PETA’s Person of the Year in 2021. However, Eilish does sometimes eat honey.

What is Billie Eilish Doing for Veganism?

What is Billie Eilish Doing for Veganism

The statement that “Billie Eilish is not just another vegan” may make you wonder what she has done for veganism that made me say this and had PETA choose her for their highly regarded award. Well, she has done quite a lot.

The young pop star is not only a strong vocal activist who highlights animal cruelty practices and talks about the health, environmental, and ethical issues posed by non-vegan lifestyles, but she has also been pushing for large-scale innovative measures to promote veganism.

Here are some of the things Billie Eilish has done that make us vegans proud:

She Brought Vegan Menu to the Met Gala

As the co-chair of the Met Gala in 20921, Eilish worked with the management to serve a 100% vegan menu for the first time in the event’s history (just so you know, the first Met Gala took place in 1948).

She Made a Deal with Oscar de la Renta to Make Them Ditch Fur

Eilish’s efforts to bring a vegan twist to the Met Gala were not just limited to the menu, she also convinced the leading fashion brand Oscar de la Renta to ditch fur.

This was her condition to wear an Oscar de la Renta dress at the event, and the brand agreed to do what she said.

She Has Partnered with Nike to Create Sustainable Vegan Shoes and Clothing

Billie Eilish has collaborated with Nike to bring sustainable vegan shoes and clothing options to countless vegan Nike fans out there. The first collaboration took place in 2021 for vegan Air Jordan.

After the overwhelming response, Nike collaborated with the young singer again and launched sustainable vegan versions of Nike’s iconic Air Force 1’s and a matching apparel line

The collection is named after her latest album, Happier Than Ever.

She Has Launched Her Own Vegan Perfume and Chocolate

In addition to Nike’s line of shoes and clothing, Eilish has also used her new album title for the vegan chocolate she has launched for her tribe. Made with 37% cocoa, it’s a classic chocolate bar that is also 100% organic and kosher.

The 20-year-old pop star also launched a vegan perfume last year. Named after her, it’s called Eilish

She Supports Vegan Initiatives

Eilish supports Support + Feed, a national vegan hunger relief initiative co-founded by her mom, on a regular basis. But she also works with other relief and charity organizations from time to time.

For example, earlier this year, she partnered with 412 Food Rescue to distribute meals to those in need ahead of her Pittsburgh concert.

In addition to these measures, the Ocean Eyes singer is also raising awareness about the environment and climate change and the positive impacts a plant-based diet can have on these during her Happier Than Ever world tour.

She also uses her Instagram to raise awareness about animal cruelty and the need for sustainable practices.

Was Billie Eilish Raised Vegan?

Billie Eilish has not always been a vegan. She has, however, always followed a plant-based lifestyle. She grew up as a vegetarian and has never eaten meat in her life, which, she said, made her transition to veganism easier.

How Long Has Billie Eilish Been Vegan For?

Billie Eilish has been vegan for over eight years. She committed to the vegan lifestyle in 2014 when she was only 12 years old and has been strictly following the animal-free lifestyle ever since.

Who Inspired Billie Eilish to Become Vegan?

This is usually the first question people ask when they know Eilish’s veganism journey started at such a young age. If you’re wondering the same, let me tell you that her mom, Maggie Baird, is also a longtime vegan and activist. So, she was obviously the first influence on Billie.

However, what really motivated her to give up on animal products completely was learning about the brutal practices of the meat and dairy industries. “I just can’t go on in my life knowing what’s going on in the animal world and not do anything about it,” she said in an interview with Vogue.

Check out the following video for Eilish’s complete interview, where she answered questions from her famous fans.

Earlier, in a 2018 Tumblr post, the 20-year-old singer highlighted her other reasons for committing to the vegan lifestyle.

“There were a lot of reasons. I love animals, and I just think there’s no point in creating something out of an animal when the animal is already there. Leave animals alone,” she wrote in response to a fan’s query about why she switched to veganism.

“Also, I am lactose intolerant, and dairy is horrible for your skin, and my skin is VERY aware of that,” she further wrote.

What Does Billie Eilish Like to Eat?

You don’t necessarily have to be a fan of Billie Eilish to know that the young singer loves avocados (for those who may not know, her Instagram handle used to be @wherearetheavocados). Some of her other favorite foods include:

  • Tofu
  • Burritos (she once ordered 18 burritos at Taco Bell)
  • Ramen
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies (she even has her own recipe for them)
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Chips

What’s Billie Eilish’s Favorite Place to Eat?

In the same Vogue interview that I referred to and linked above, Billie Eilish also revealed her favorite restaurant. She mentioned that her favorite takeout place is a Thai restaurant in LA called My Vegan.

She also told her go-to order at My Vegan. It includes garlic basil noodles, curry, and satay.

Does Billie Eilish Eat Honey?

Not regularly, but she does sometimes eat honey.

Eilish revealed that despite being a vegan herself, her mom has been giving her honey since childhood. She doesn’t consume honey regularly, though. She only uses it when she’s unwell.

Most vegans avoid honey because they believe it signifies animal exploitation. Bees make honey for themselves and not us. Moreover, the high demand for honey has given rise to the commercial beekeeping industry, which, like commercial meat and dairy industries, isn’t ethical.

I have discussed this topic in detail in a separate article. Give it a read if you’re interested to learn more about this topic.

Billie Eilish generally classifies herself as a vegan and is considered the same by others as well.

As for her occasional use of honey, I guess we can let it slip. After all, none of us is perfect. Moreover, she is a strong advocate of veganism and has been promoting the lifestyle for years.

She has also been paving the way for a more vegan-friendly future by pushing for several large-scale innovative initiatives, some of which we have discussed above.
